HEART
& CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
Heart
disease accounts for half of all deaths in the United States.
However, it is one of the most preventable chronic degenerative
diseases. Previously, it was believed that heart disease was a
result of high cholesterol levels.
Consequently,
new research has shown that the presence of oxidized cholesterol
in the blood stream is the culprit. Oxidized cholesterol enters
the blood stream from processed foods, the metabolism of ingested
animal products, from environmental pollutants (i.e. chlorine,
fluoride or chlorinated pesticides), or by various stressors such
as infections, traumas and emotional stress.
Many of these oxysterols reach people via the air-dried powdered
milk and eggs used in processed foods and in fast food products.
Scrambled eggs and hamburgers are known to produce oxysterols.
Therosclerosis, in which the inner arterial walls harden and thicken
due to fatty deposits, is a common precursor of heart disease.
These plaques can block the arteries and interrupt blood flow
to the organs they supply, including the heart and brain.
Atherosclerosis
of the coronary arteries (the ones that supply the heart muscle
itself), known as coronary heart disease, is one of the most common
forms of heart disease in the United States. Recently, scientific
studies have shown that calcium from synthetic sources, instead
of from extracts of vegetables, causes plaque to adhere to arterial
walls.
SYMPTOMS
Although the first sign of heart disease can be
a heart attack, some symptoms may be present before such an event
takes place. These include shortness of breath, chest pain and/or
left arm pain and mid-back pain.
NUTRITIONAL
DEFICIENCIES BASED ON SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Essential
Fatty Acid when the diet is supplemented with these Omega-3 acids,
they help to lower homocysteine, which is a free radical generator
capable of oxidizing cholesterol. Vitamins B6, B12 and Folic Acid-sufficient
amounts of these in the diet also help to decrease homocysteine.
Coenzyme Q10--This enzyme helps to strengthen the heart muscle
and energize the cardiovascular system. It also aids in the protection
against atherosclerosis as well as possesses antioxidant properties
that may prevent the formation of oxysterols.
